‘칸딘스키, 말레비치 & 러시아 아방가르드: 혁명의 예술’은 그동안 서유럽 중심으로 짜여져 왔던 근대미술사의 얼개를 비서구권으로 확장하는 데 기여할 전시다. 추상회화의 선구자 칸딘스키와 말레비치 외 로드첸코, 곤차로바, 라리오노프 등 러시아 아방가르드 미술가 49인의 작품 75점을 만나볼 수 있다. 기성 미술계의 구태를 전복하는 예술적 혁명을 위해 러시아의 젊은 미술가들은 서구 미술의 여러 최신 경향을 적극적으로 받아들여 이를 융합하였다. 그들은 새로운 시대에 걸맞은 혁신을 추구하며 입체미래주의를 거쳐 표현주의적 추상과 절대주의로 나아갔고, 구축주의를 통해 현대적 시각문화 형성에 일조하였다. 이들의 발자취는 문명사적 전환기 예술가들의 사회적 참여와 소명에 대하여 돌아볼 기회를 우리에게 제공한다.
총 6구역으로 이루어진 전시는 러시아 아방가르드의 태동과 전개, 정권의 탄압으로 인한 쇠퇴, 그리고 아방가르드가 현대적 디자인과 건축에 남긴 영향까지 살펴볼 수 있도록 구성되어있다. 그 외 에이젠슈테인 등 전위적 영화감독들의 작품 10편도 전시장에서 감상할 수 있다.
KANDINSKY, MALEVICH & Russian avant-garde: The Art of Revolution is an exhibition that will expand the framework of modern art history, centered on Western Europe to the non-western world. You can see 75 works by 49 Russian avant-garde artists such as KANDINSKY, MALEVICH, RODCHENKO, GONCHAROVA, AND LARIONOV. For the artistic revolution to overthrow the old state of the established art world, young Russian artists actively embraced and fused several latest trends in Western art. Therefore they helped to form a modern visual culture. Their footsteps provide us with an opportunity to look back on the social participation and calling of artists in the transitional period of civilization.
The exhibition is designed to examine the birth and development of the avant-garde art in Russia, its decline due to the oppression of the regime, and the influence of the avant-garde on modern design and architecture. 10 works by avant-garde film directors also can be enjoyed at the exhibition hall.
