리움미술관의 ‘인간, 일곱 개의 질문’전은 21세기의 급변하는 환경과 유례없는 팬데믹 상황 속에서 인간 존재의 의미와 인간을 바라보는 시선이 어떻게 변화되어왔는지를 고찰하고, 미래를 가늠해보고자 마련한 전시이다.
인간에 대한 일곱 개의 질문을 던지는 형식으로 구성된 전시는 인간 실존에 대한 성찰이 확산된 20세기 중반 전후(戰後) 미술을 필두로, 휴머니즘의 위기 및 포스트휴먼 논의와 더불어 등장한 다양한 국내외의 작품을 포함한다. 전시에 선보이는 51명 작가의 130여 점의 작품들은 마음과 몸, 이성과 비이성, 나와 공동체, 실재와 가상, 인간과 비인간의 경계를 넘나드는 다양한 인간상을 보여준다.
이를 통해 인간 존재와 우리를 둘러싼 관계들을 이해하고, 지금까지 당연시해 온 인간적 가치들에 대해 재고해보는 기회가 될 것이다.
Leeum Museum of Art present a special exhibition, ‘Human, 7 questions’. This exhibition contemplates the meaning of “being human” against the backdrop of the fast-changing environment of the 21st century and the unprecedented pandemic as we head towards the future.
With approximately 130 works by 51 artists from Korea and abroad, the exhibition brings together postwar art of the mid-20th century, when introspection on human existence became widespread, and recent art that emerged with the development of discussions on issues concerning the crisis of humanism and the rise of the posthuman era. These works examine various images of humans that traverse the boundaries between the mind and body, rational and irrational, “me” and the community, real and virtual, and humans and non-humans. By raising questions about human values that we may have taken for granted thus far, we offer visitors a chance to reflect on the existence of human beings and the relationships that surround us.
