갤러리현대는 9월 8일부터 10월 31일까지 이건용(b. 1942) 작가의 개인전 ‘Bodyscape’를 개최한다. 신체적 행위에 기반을 둔 동명의 회화 연작에 집중한 전시다. 드로잉의 방법, 바디스케이프 등 시기에 따라, 작가의 의도에 따라 몇 가지 다른 제목으로 붙여진 그의 퍼포먼스-회화는, 작가의 제한된 신체 조건과 행위에 따라 남겨진 일종의 흔적이라고 할 수 있다. 작가의 신체가 놓인 조건 속에서 일련의 선을 남기는 이 연작에는 신체, 장소, 관계 등에 대한 이건용만의 독창적인 미학과 사유가 담겨있다.
갤러리현대는 ‘Bodyscape’를 개최하며, 그동안 ‘퍼포먼스’의 맥락에서 논의됐던 이 연작을 ‘회화’의 관점에서 재조명한다. 신작 회화와 함께 실험적 드로잉 작품도 함께 선보여 ‘화가’ 이건용의 작품 세계를 폭넓게 조망할 예정이다.
Gallery Hyundai is pleased to present LEE Kun-yong’s solo exhibition Bodyscape running from September 8 to October 31. The
exhibition focuses on his paintings based on corporeal action. His performance paintings are given different titles depending on the artist’s intentions such as The Method of Drawing or Bodyscape. The works are the vestiges caused by the limits of the artist’s physical conditions and actions. Leaving lines under the conditions in which the artist’s body is placed, the series shows LEE Kunyong’s unique aesthetic and contemplation on the relationship between body and space.
Gallery Hyundai re-highlights this series, which has been interpreted in the context of “performance”, in the perspective of
“painting.” The exhibition also features works on paper alongside newly produced paintings, giving a wide view of the oeuvre of the “painter” LEE Kun-yong.
