이번 전시는 최초의 근대적 선거였던 1948년 5·10 제헌국회의원선거부터 2020년 4·15 제21대 국회의원선거까지 73년 선거의 역사를 통해 투표와 같은 참여 행위가 개인의 일상적 삶의 영역에서부터 국가의 운명에 이르기까지 어떻게 변화의 갈림길에서 극적인 방식으로 역사를 전개시켜 왔는지 살피고자 한다.
중앙선거관리위원회에 소장된 400여 점의 선거 사료와 주요 신문 기사를 비롯해 우리나라 선거의 역사를 다층적으로 기록한 아카이브 자료와 함께, 동시대 예술가 21팀이 참여하여 다양한 예술적 형식으로 갈등과 경합, 그리고 축제의 장을 펼쳐 보인다.
지금도 일민미술관 앞 광화문 광장에서는 정치적 입장이 다른 이들이 모여 수많은 드라마를 만들어내고 있다. 선거라는 제도 속에 혼재된 다양한 욕망을 심리 게임, 파티, 페스티벌의 형태로 제시하며, 관객들에게 자신의 의견을 직접 표현하도록 권한을 부여하고 예술가들의 정치적 의사 표현이자, 선전, 캠페인과 결합한 동시대 예술의 새로운 형식을 탐색한다.
The exhibition comprises 73 years of the history of election and intends to investigate the impact of voter participation on history dramatically developed at a crossroads of change concerning the individual lives and the fate of the nation.
This includes the collection of the National Election Commission with its 400 election materials, news articles and the archive of the history of election along with multifarious artworks created by 21 contemporary artist teams to realize an event competition and appreciation.
Up to this day, there exists the antagonism between opposing political orientations assembled at Gwanghwamun Square located in front of the Ilmin Museum of Art. A variety of desires infused in the electoral system is manifested in forms of the psychological game, party, and festival. The exhibition authorizes the audiences to willingly express and further explores the form of art of which functions as political representation, communication, and campaign of the artist.
