루이 비통은 에스파스루이비통 서울의 개관을 기념하여 알베르토 자코메티의 특별 전시를 개최한다. 후기 인상주의와 상징주의 시기에 작품 활동을 시작한 작가는 1920년대 들어 후기 입체주의와 초현실주의 화풍의 작품 스타일을 선보인다. 하지만 이내 그는 초현실적인 오브제 조각 형식을 빠르게 탈피하여 인물 조각 제작에 집중한다. 자코메티가 1950년대 조각한 인물의 몸은 점점 더 얇아졌고, 그는 자신이 인식한 대로 모델을 재현할 수 없다는 것을 계속해서 실패라고 느꼈다. 그리고 위태로운 존재를 보여주는 최소한의 선만 남겨 극도의 단순화를 통해 인물을 역설적으로 강렬하게 부상시키는 데 성공했다.
에스파스루이비통 서울은 첫 번째 전시로 재단 컬렉션에 소장된 자코메티의 대표 조각 8점을 전시한다. 이번 전시는 재단 소장 컬렉션 중 해외 미공개 작품을 선보이는 루이비통재단미술관의 전시 프로젝트 ‘미술관 벽 너머(Hors-les-murs)’의 일환으로, 에스파스루이비통 도쿄, 뮌헨, 베네치아, 베이징에 이어 서울의 에스파스루이비통에서 진행된다.
For its inauguration, the Espace Louis Vuitton Seoul presents an exhibition dedicated to major artist Alberto GIACOMETTI. Initially introduced to art in the Post-Impressionist and Symbolist era, GIACOMETTI shifted into Post-Cubism and Surrealism in the 1920s. He quickly turned away from the surreal objects that brought him recognition, to focus on the model. As the bodies he sculpted became thinner in the 1950s, and with a sense of lingering failure over his inability to reproduce his models as he perceived them, he achieved extreme simplification of the forms, reducing them to the essential lines of their precarious existence.
For its very first exhibition, the Espace Louis Vuitton Seoul presents eight emblematic sculptures by Giacometti, that belong to the Collection. This presentation has been produced in the framework of the Fondation Louis Vuitton’s “Hors-les-murs” program, showcasing previously unseen holdings of the Collection at the Espaces Louis Vuitton in Tokyo, Munich, Venice, Beijing, and now Seoul.
