General Drawing - Student’s Book for Grades 2-4
Governor-General of Korea, 1921
<General Drawing> is based on <New Correct Drawing Book> produced by the Japanese Bureau of Education and is published in two separate volumes - Students' book for Grades 2-6 (in 1926 the title was changed to “for children”) and Teacher’s Book for Grades 1- 6 grades.
The copy of <General Drawing> currently in the possession of Kimdaljin Art Archives and Museum is the Student’s book for grades 2, 3 and 4. The material is divided in 19 units – the book for Grade 2 contains freehand drawings and sketches of everyday objects such as the Korean national flag, dog, morning glory flower etc. The book for Grade 3 builds up on the previous volume and aims to teach the pupils to draw the same objects but in three dimensions using sketches of matchboxes. There are also lessons on straight and curved lines (units 10 and 18). The book for Grade 4 teaches the drawing of more complex lines (units 4 and 10) in addition to introducing new subjects such as shadowing (unit 1), mock-ups (unit 6), art appreciation (unit 9), perspective (unit 14) and technical blueprints (unit 15).
