리움미술관은 다양한 매체와 방식으로 회화의 확장 가능성을 실험해 온 강서경 작가의 개인전 ‘버들 북 꾀꼬리’를 개최한다.
이번 전시 제목이자 신작 영상의 제목인 <버들 북 꾀꼬리>는 전통 가곡 이수대엽(二數大葉)의 <버들은>을 참조한 것으로, 마치 실을 짜듯 버드나무 사이를 날아다니는 꾀꼬리의 움직임과 소리를 풍경의 직조로 읽어내던 선인들의 비유를 가져온다. 이를 통해 작가는 시각·촉각·청각 등의 다양한 감각과 시·공간적 차원의 경험을 아우르는 작업의 특징을 상징적으로 드러낸다. 또한, 시간의 흐름 가운데 변화하는 자연의 요소와 그 속에서 함께 자리하고 관계하는 개인들의 이야기를 녹여내며, 인간과 자연이 공존하는 거대하지만 섬세한 풍경을 제시한다.
초기 대표작에서 발전된 작업부터 다양한 방식으로 확장된 신작에 이르기까지 총 130여 점이 출품되며, M2 전시장과 로비를 활용하여 시간의 흐름 가운데 변화하는 자연과 그 속에 함께하는 개인들의 이야기가 공존하는 거대하지만 섬세한 풍경을 펼쳐낸다.
Leeum Museum of Art presents ‘Willow Drum Oriole’, a solo exhibition of one of Korea’s leading contemporary artists, Suki Seokyeong KANG. Experimenting with the expansive possibilities of painting as a medium through a variety of media and methods, including two dimensional work, sculpture, installation, video, and performance(“activations”), Suki Seokyung KANG’s oeuvre encompasses a wide range of artistic, cultural, and social contexts that are at once traditional and contemporary.
This exhibition, the largest institutional solo show of the artist to date, presents works that have been developed from previous series such as <Jeong>, <Mora>, <Mat>, as well as <Mountain>, <Ears>, <Hours> and <Column>.
Suki Seokyeong KANG contemplates the territory that society grants to the individual and envisions a “true-view” landscape in which the presence and movement of those around us are perceived and interrelated. Although the works of the landscape each exist in different forms and ways, they collectively unravel a narrative of togetherness as they organically integrate and disperse.
