  송창은 1980년대 대표적인 미술운동그룹, 임술년(壬戌年)의 동인으로 당시 이런저런 사회의 변화상에 예민하게 반응하며 지금껏 시대적, 사회적 이슈를 힘 있게 예의 삼투해 왔다. 그가 주목한 것은 바로 분단의 문제였다. 작가 송창은 관성의 길로 접어들지 않고 자기와 의 싸움을 계속해왔다. 송창의 작업이 의미있는 이유 중 하나가 꾸준하게 남북분단이라는 단일 이슈에 천착했다는 것이다. 화가 송창은 꽃과 같은 식물, 동물, 인물과 같은 다양한 소재를 통해 분단이라는 현실이슈를 삼투하고 반영했지만, 주로 사용한 투영 방식은 풍경이다. 서정적, 물리적 풍경이라기보다는 분단이 빚어낸 삶의 현실이 강조된 서사적, 심리적 풍경이 대부분이다. 송창의 풍경은 아물 수 없는 동족상잔의 현장, 전쟁의 뚜렷한 상흔 에 대한 고발이자 증언이다. 이번 전시는 2012년 이후에 제작된 송창의 근작 중 대작 중심으로 구성했다. 13개의 미사일 모형을 활용한 입체작업은 화가 송창의 확장된 호흡을 보여준다. 이번 전시가 분단현 실과 분단에 대한 작가의 지난한 천착을 현재적 시점에서 돌아보고 체험하는 기회가 되기를 바란다.

  Seongnam Arts Center Cube Art Museum holds the very first exhibition, SONG Chang, as the contemporary issue in 2017. SONG Chang was the member Dong In which is the representative of 80’s art movement group. As an art activist, he has been sensitive to various social transformations and strongly described the issue of the times. He especially concentrates on the matter of the division of Korea into north and south. What makes his art works worth is he delves deeper into the subject constantly. He does not fall into habitual behavior and keeps fighting with his inner self. This exhibition is consists of paintings worked after 2012’s. The number of 13 mockups of missile can show his extended way of expression. Though artist SONG Chang has dealt with his issue by using various subjects such as animals, plants and human, what he has painted most is landscape. For most his landscape describes emotional, narrative scene with wounded and tortured reality of the division rather than just superficial and plain one. SONG Chang’s works are the testimony and accusation of the tragedy of fratricidal war that never beyond retrieval. It will be an opportunity that visitors can experience and feel the actualities of the division of Korea and get a chance of understand artist’s deep investigation into the past at current point.
