총 120여 점이 전시되는 이번 회고전에는 작가의 시대별 대표작은 물론 그간 도록으로만 확인되던 초기작과 미공개작, 드로잉과 스케치북 등 다양한 작품이 출품된다. 아울러, 김환기가 소장했던 도자기와 화구, 편지와 사진, 스크랩북 등의 다양한 자료가 유족의 협조로 전시를 통해 처음으로 공개되어 작가와 그의 예술을 함께 살피는 귀중한 자리가 될 것이다.

After a year-long renovation of the Hoam Museum of Art, the Samsung Foundation of Culture is pleased to present a retrospective of Suwha KIM Whanki (1913–74), a pioneer of Korean contemporary art. Titled ‘a dot a sky_KIM Whanki,’ the exhibition looks into his oeuvre of forty years devoted to developing ‘Korean’ abstract art inspired by nature and tradition, which reached its peak in New York. Comprised of about 120 works, this retrospective includes not only major works from all periods of his career, but also rare works never before exhibited such as early paintings as well as drawings and sketchbooks. In addition, thanks to the artist’s family, the exhibition features archival materials and objects from his personal collection, such as pottery, painting tools, letters and photographs, and scrapbooks, which offer insights into his art and life on a deeper level.
