꿈과 이상은 무언가가 늘 발목 잡는다. 하고 싶은 것과 해야 하는 것은 항상 다르기만 하다. 예외 없이 모두 당사자일 것만 같은 이 고민들을, 다양한 시각과 체험으로 풀어보는 전시가 열렸다.
족쇄는 꿈을 향해 나아가는 나를 ‘발목 잡는 것들’, 코뚜레는 그 비용으로 ‘코 꿰어 있는 생업’을 말한다. 이 ‘만인의 딜레마’를 헤쳐나가는 작가들의 비결과 다짐을, 설치와 회화가 어우러진 관객 체험 중심 전시로 유쾌히 담아냈다.
전시는 4개 섹션에 걸쳐 전개된다. 모르겠으면 일단 전진하는 김동현과 신민의 ‘묵묵꿋꿋’. 생업과 작업의 균형잡기, 기왕이면 둘 다 잘하기를 꿈꾸는 오순미와 장하나의 ‘공수겸장’. 하고 싶은 것과 해야 하는 것의 동기화를 시도하는 도파민최, 최호철의 ‘덕업일치’. 생업에 치어 꿈을 잃고 변질하지 않기를 기도하는 박수호, 허보리의 ‘퇴색금지’.
Dreams and ideals are always held back by something. What you want to do is one thing and what you have to do is another. An exhibition is held to address these concerns that torment all of us, through various perspectives and experiences.
Leash refers to ‘that which holds back the artist’ who reaches for his/her dreams, and hook refers to ‘livelihood that one is indentured to’. The exhibition cheerfully captures the secrets and resolutions of artists who navigate through ‘the dilemma of all’, focusing on the audience’s experience of installations and paintings.
The exhibition spans four sections: ‘Silently and Firmly’ by KIM Donghyun and SHIN Min, which shows the ‘philosophy’ of ‘if in doubt, move forward’. ‘Skilled at Both Offense and Defense’ by OH Soonmi and JANG Hana who dream of striking a balance between working to live and living to work, and if possible, doing both well. ‘Unity of Working to Live and Living to Work’ by Dopamine CHOI and CHOI Hochul, seeking to synchronize what they want to do with what they should do. ‘Fading Not Allowed’ by PARK Suho and HUR Boree, who pray that they will not lose their dreams and give up, living under the daily grind of wage-earning.
