‘산책자의 시선’은 경기문화재단 2016 문예진흥 공모지원 사업의 일환으로 선정된 기성작가 19인의 신작발표전이다. 작품의 원숙기에 접어든 작가들의 작품은 사회의 움직임을 관찰하고 기록하는 예술가 본연의 ‘산책자’의 자세를 견지하고 있다. 전시의 제목인 ‘산책자의 시선’은 19세기 말 20세기 초 유럽의 도시를 배회하고 관찰하던 일군의 도시 탐색자들, 학자와 예술가, 시인들을 지칭했던 ‘산책자 Flâneur’의 개념을 차용한 것이다. 당시의 예술가들이 자본이 발달한 도시의 풍경을 관찰하고 기록하는 과정에서 근대 도시를 비판적으로 파악할 수 있었다면, ‘산책자의 시선’전에 참여한 작가들은 자본주의가 고도로 발달한, 혹은 위기에 처한 동시대의 풍경에 관심의 끈을 놓지 않고 관찰하고 있다. ‘산책자’들은 그 시대의 풍경을 텍스트로 삼아 그것을 분석함으로써 그 시대를 해석하도록 만들어준다. ‘산책자의 시선’전에 참여한 19인의 산책자들은 한국의 동시대를 텍스트삼아 이 시대의 다양한 모습을 보여준다. 또한, 작가들의 세계를 탐색하는 또 다른 동행자, 비평가 5인의 글에서 예술로 떠나는 여정에서 발견하는 다채로운 이야기를 만날 수 있을 것이다.

The Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art is pleased to hold a group exhibition ‘In the Flâneur’s Eyes’. It features the new artworks of promising artists from Gyeonggi Province who were selected for the arts support program of Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation. The works of these participating artists who have attained maturity maintain the attitude of ‘flâneur’, as ought to be expected from an artist. The exhibition title is inspired by the concept of ‘flâneur’, which refers to urban explorers, scholars and artists, and poets wandering and observing the European cities in the late 19th and the early 20th century. If the artists at time could acquire a critical understanding of modern city while observing and recording the urban landscape where the captial developed, the artists participating in this exhibition are those who have been observing the highly capitalized and jeopardized society of our time. The ‘Flâneurs’ are known to help people to interpret the times by taking the landscape of their times as a text and analyzing it. And the articles of five critics, or another companions exploring the worlds of the participating artists will tell you various stories they found in the journey to art.
