송은아트스페이스는 현대미술 컬렉션 기획전의 일환으로 인도네시아 컬렉터 톰 탄디오의 컬렉션 일부를 선보인다. 이번 전시는 인 도네시아 미술계 안에서 컬렉터와 예술가의 관계에 대한 큐레이터의 관찰에서 출발한 전시이다. 인도네시아 현대미술이 발전하기 시작한 이래, 컬렉터들은 예술가의 후원자이자 친구가 되어 둘 사이의 가깝고도 친밀한 관계가 형성되었다. 이 둘은 인도네시아와 같은 신생국가의 민족의식을 형성하는 예술의 역할을 지지한다는 공통점이 있다. 톰 탄디오는 여러 형태의 예술을 만들어내는 작가들을 지원하고, 그들의 작업을 수집하는 것으로 동시대 컬렉터들에게 강력한 영향을 주고 있다. 이 전시는 개념예술에서부터 역사와 관련된 설치예 술, 유쾌하고 가벼운 사진작업, 영상, 드로잉과 페인팅 같은 전통적 인 표현매체에 이르기까지 그의 다양한 관심을 보여준다. 또한, 이번 전시를 보여주는 방식은 1998년 정치적인 변화 이후의 인도네시아 미술계의 새로운 힘을 드러낸다.

From October 2016, SongEun ArtSpace proudly presents its collection series titled ‘Tom TANDIO-The Man Who Fell into Art: Collecting as a Form of Personal Narrative’. This exhibition departs from the curator’s observation on relationships between collectors and artists in the context of the Indonesian art scene. Since the beginning of the development of modern art in Indonesia, there has been a trace of a close and intimate relations between both which started mostly when the collectors became both patrons and friends. There are shared visions between them, particularly to support the role of art in order to build a sense of nationalism for such young country. Tom has strongly influenced collectors of his generation to collect and support artists who create different form of arts. This exhibition displays the diversity of his interests: from conceptual arts, installations related to history, humorous and light photography works, video works, and also conventional medium like drawings and paintings. The practices display in this exhibition also represent the new dynamics of Indonesian art after the political shifting of 1998.
