YANG Fudong

편집부

YANG Fudong

6.11 - 10.16
(Q-16) Daegu Art Museum

YANG Fudong, a Chinese media artist, has gained attention by conveying personal stories of individuals living with anxiety, nihilism and helplessness in the Chinese society that has rapidly become capitalistic in the form of poetic and dreamlike black-and-white films. At a time when the Chinese contemporary art grew rapidly, many artists selected politic issues of the modern and contemporary history. Yet, he has revealed more universal themes including the inner world of human beings and meanings of life through various formal attempts. ‘YANG Fudong, The light that I feel’ curated by Daegu Art Museum is Yang Fudong’s first solo exhibition in Korean museum. The exhibition showcases his seven representative film works and 20 photographical works including performance photos, amounting to a total of 30 works for the past 20 years since 1993. ‘The light that I feel’, the exhibition title named after a large film installation work, represents that it was organized to enable viewers to feel diverse sensations from his films and empathize with them in a space he specially designed. Large film installation works such as <The light that I feel>, <General’s smile>  showcased in the exhibition are starkly different from his works which have been introduced in Korea.
