가나아트센터는 오윤(1946-86)의 30주기 회고전을 개최했다. 오윤은 1960년대 대학가 문화운동과 1980년대 민중미술 사이에 위치한 작가로, 그가 활동한 이 시기는 ‘한국적인 것’과 ‘세계적인 것’ 사이에서 많은 작가가 예술적 정체성을 찾기 위해 고군분투하였으며, 오윤은 이러한 분위기 속에서 토속적인 주제를 통해 자신의 예술적 향방을 찾고자 했다. 그는 현대적인 감각으로 전통적 주제들을 재해석했으며, 이러한 그의 작품들은 오윤만의 독자적인 작품세계를 구축했다.
미술사학자 윤범모가 기획한 이번 전시에서는 작가의 작업과정을 고스란히 읽을 수 있는 미공개 드로잉과 함께 생전에 작가 자신이 제작했던 판화와 유화, 그리고 조각에 이르기까지 다양한 작품들을 두루 살펴볼 수 있다. 오윤의 다양한 작품을 살펴볼 수 있는 본 전시를 통해 우리는 한국 민중미술의 요체인 그의 작품세계 전반을 이해하고, 토착문화의 현장을 섭렵하던 한 미술가의 생애와 그가 머물렀던 당대의 맥락을 두루 살필 수 있는 소중한 기회를 가질 수 있을 것이다.
Gana Art Center is opening O Yoon’s (1946-86) 30th anniversary retrospective exhibition. O Yoon is an artist who is located in between 1960s university cultural movement and 1980s Minjoong Art. This period was the moment when many artists struggled to find their artistic identities between something ‘Korean’ and ‘universal’, and O tried to find his artistic pathway through using folksy subjects. He reinterpreted traditional subjects with a modern touch, and these art works formed his own art world.
At this exhibition, organized by art historian YOON Beom-mo, we can explore variety of O’s works from undisclosed drawings to prints, paintings, and sculptures. Through experiencing variety of O’s art works at this exhibition, we can meet an opportunity to look into the heart of a Minjoong artist’s life in the scene of aboriginal culture and understand his entire art world.
