  세월호 희생자 추념전 ‘사월의 동행’은 희생자 가족은 물론 참사로 인해 공동의 아픔을 갖게 된 이웃들과 서로를 위무하기 위해 기획되었다. 이 전시는 세월호 정부합동분향소가 설치된 화랑유원지에서 지난 2년간 유가족과 국민들의 슬픔을 함께 목도한 경기도미술관이 공동체와 마음을 나누고 일상을 회복하는 과정에 ‘동행’하고자 마련되었다. 

  전시에는 22인(팀)의 다양한 분야와 세대를 아우 르는 작가들이 세월호 참사를 예술가의 시선으로 기록하고 해석한 작품들이 설치된다. 이 작품들은 ‘기록하다’, ‘기억하다’, ‘동행하다’ 라는 세 가지 화두이자 예술행동으로 구성된다. ‘기록하다’는 세월호 참사 이후 다양한 문화예술 분야에서 예술적 실천을 통해 사회적 연대를 표현했던 예술가들의 행동을 수집한 ‘예술행동 아카이브’로 제시된다. ‘기억하다’는 한국의 시각 예술가들이 지난 2년간 세월호를 기억하고 그를 통해 바라본 우리의 사회와 삶을 반추한 작품들로 구성된다. ‘동행하다’는 예술가가 이러한 사회적 비극을 어떻게 추모하고 함께 나아갈 것인지를 묻는 신작 프로젝트로 구성되어 있다.

Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art presents ‘April: the Eternal Voyage’, a memorial exhibition conceived to remember the victims of the Sewol ferry disaster and to console their families and friends who lost their loved ones. For the past two years, our museum has prayed alongside bereaved families at the Government Joint Memorial in Hwarang Recreation Park, and has organized this exhibition to support the families as they attempt to resume their lives. The exhibition has invited 22 Korean artists/artist groups from different generations and genres featuring works that the artists recorded and interpreted from their perspective.

The works featured in this exhibition are categorized into three topics – “To Record”, “To Remember”, and “To Accompany”. The first theme “To Record” is presented as “artistic conduct archive” which is a collection of artists’ conducts that represented the social solidarity through artistic practice. “To Remember” is comprised of works that reflect our society and lives seen by Korean artists through the Sewol ferry disaster. Lastly, “To Accompany” features new projects that question how the artists will cherish the memories of the victims and live with the memories of the tragedy.
