이길이구 갤러리는  2023년 12월9일 부터 2024년 1월13일까지  성태진 (b.1974) 작가의 개인전<내 모든 날과 그때>를 개최합니다. 이번 전시는 대중문화와 한국 현대미술의 교차점을 탐구하는 중요한 전시로, ‘태권브이’를 포함한 다양한 요소를 결합한 서사 구조를 통해 관객에게 50여 점의 작품들로 회화 작품을 포함한 설치미술 등을 통한 인간적 희망과 믿음의 메시지를 전달합니다. 태권브이라는 대중적 상징을 중심으로, 성태진 작가는 우리 삶의 근본적인 인간성을 탐구합니다. 애니메이션 속의 로봇을 인간화시켜, 작가는 일상 속에서 종종 간과되는, 하지만 결정적인 순간들의 가치를 재조명합니다. 이러한 작품들은 사회적 무관심과 소외받는 이들에 대한 따뜻한 시선을 담고 있으며, 관객들에게 삶의 희로애락을 풍자적으로, 그러나 진한 감동으로 전달합니다.

2GIL29 GALLERY is proud to present 'All my days and precious moments' a solo exhibition by artist Taejin Seong (b. 1974), running from December 9, 2023, to January 13, 2024. This pivotal exhibition explores the intersection of popular culture and contemporary Korean art, conveying a human message of hope and belief through over fifty works, including paintings and installations. Centered around the popular symbol of 'Taekwon V,' Seong delves into the fundamental aspects of our humanity. By humanizing the robotic figure from animation, he illuminates the often overlooked yet critical moments in everyday life. His works embody a warm perspective on social indifference and the marginalized, delivering life's vicissitudes with satirical yet profound impact to the audience.

Seong's creative process manifests in the traditional method of engraving text and images on woodblocks, a practice that echoes the patriotic spirit of our ancestors who engraved the Tripitaka Koreana. This unique method integrates personal aspirations with the spirit of Korean culture within the realm of contemporary art. By unifying modern societal realities with his production techniques, Seong reinterprets Taekwon V as a symbol of Korean energy, playing a crucial role in conveying the originality of contemporary Korean art to the world.

One of the exhibition's highlights, the engraved 'Rocket Punch' on woodblock, symbolizes the uncertainty and hope of our lives. The image of Rocket Punch adrift in space visually expresses the infinite energy of life, prompting viewers to discover the unfinished beauty and potential within their own lives. 'All my days and precious moments' at 2GIL29 GALLERY offers a profound reflection on the everyday and defining moments in our individual lives. 성태진 작가는 컴퓨터 공학을 전공한 공학도 출신으로 후에 추계예술대학교에서 판화와 홍익대학교에서 석사를 전공하고 뉴욕 홍콩 싱가포르 세계무대에서 왕성히 활동하며 작업을 이어 오고 있다. 공학에 뜻을 두었지만 예술과 역사에 남다른 관심으로 결국 그림을 그리게 된다. 이 작품은 어린 시절 즐겨보던 ‘태권브이’를 모티브로 판화 기법을 사용하여 양각으로 목판에 도상을 새기고 겹겹이 색을 칠한 작업이다. 성태진이 표현한 태권 브이는 강철 로봇의 영웅적인 모습이 아니라 동시대에 존재하는 현실적인 우리네 모습을 대변한다. 갑옷을 벗고 운동복을 입은 태권브이는 친근한 모습을 하고 현대인들의 희로애락에 대한 풍자를 담고 있다. 그는 유년의 추억이라는 대중적인 공감대를 만화의 극단적인 평면성과 글과 그림이 함께 구성된 이야기구조를 활용해 작가를 포함한 현 사회의 태권브이 세대 영웅에 대한 꿈이 사라진 청년 백수의 무기력에 대한 이야기로 풀어내었다. 사회적 무관심 속에 퇴색해버린 우리의 모습이자 소외되고 힘없는 서민에 대한 그의 애정 어린 시각이기도 하다. 이런 일련의 작업들은 성태진 작가만의 미술언어를 엿볼 수 있는 지점이며 과거부터 현재까지 대중적 공감 대상이 되는 모든 것을 작업의 대상으로 만든다. 밝고 경쾌한 컬러 위에 해학을 얹어 보는 이를 절로 미소 짓게 하는 그의 작품은 세대의 구분없이 폭넓은 사랑을 받아 판화 작품뿐 아니라 미디어아트, 설치미술에 이르기 까지 다양한 장르를 다루고 있다.

 

Taejin Seong, born in 1974, began his career with a background in computer engineering but later pursued printmaking at ChuGye University for the Arts and completed his master's degree at Hongik University. He has been actively working and exhibiting his art on international stages in New York, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Although he initially focused on engineering, his exceptional interest in art and history eventually led him to become an artist. One of his works is inspired by 'Taekwon V,' a favorite childhood show, and utilizes printmaking techniques. This piece involves carving images onto woodblocks in relief and applying layers of color. Seong’s interpretation of Taekwon V is not as a heroic steel robot, but rather as a realistic reflection of contemporary society. In his depiction, Taekwon V, dressed in exercise clothes instead of armor, humorously represents the joys and sorrows of modern life. Seong uses the simplistic flatness of cartoons and a narrative structure combining text and images to convey a story about the lost dreams of youth and the apathy felt by the unemployed young generation. His work, reflecting societal indifference, is also a tender portrayal of the marginalized and powerless common people. These series of artworks are characteristic of Seong's unique artistic language, addressing universally relatable themes from the past to the present. His works, known for their bright colors and humor, are widely appreciated across generations and cover various genres, including printmaking, media art, and installation art.
