설화(說話) – 견우 직녀

설화수의 대표적 문화 메세나 활동인 설화문화전은 전통과 현대의 조화를 통해 세대 간의 공감과 교류를 이끌어내는 문화 소통의 장이다. 2015년부터는 구전으로 내려오는 전통설화를 주제로 선택하여 다양한 분야의 젊은 작가들이 설화를 여러 장르로 변주하고 현대적 관점으로 해석을 시도하였다. 올해로 열 번째를 맞는 2016 설화문화전은 지난 해 개최된 전시의 의미를 이어, 보다 많은 세대들이 흥미롭게 즐기고 공감할 수 있는 전시를 선보이고자 한다.

전시의 주제는 누구나 한번쯤 들어봤을 법한 우리의 고전 설화 '견우 직녀‘ 이야기이다. 전시에 참여하는 11팀의 작가들은 설치(전가영, 이수진, 박여주, FriiH), 건축(stpmj, OAA, 오영욱), 디자인(패브리커, 안지미+이상홍), 미디어(조애리), 사운드(김준) 등 다양한 장르의 작품들로 견우 직녀 이야기 속에 담긴 사랑과 약속, 만남과 이어짐 등의 상징적 소재들을 현대적인 관점으로 풀어낸다.

전시는 설화수 플래그십 스토어와 도산공원이라는 이원화된 공간에서 진행된다. 관람객들은 설화 속 주인공이 되어 도산공원의 산책로를 따라 걸으며 작품을 감상하기도 하고, 설화수 플래그십 스토어 내‧외부에 자연스럽게 녹아 든 작품들을 경험할 수 있다. 또한 각각의 공간 사이에 연결된 의미를 스스로 찾아보고, 익숙한 이야기를 새롭게 바라볼 수 있을 것이다.

Once upon a time: The Two Love Stars, the Altair and Vega

The Sulwha Cultural Exhibition, Sulwhasoo’s representative cultural Mécénat program, serves as a cultural communication platform that creates harmony between modernity and tradition and promotes cross-generational exchange and connection. In 2015, Sulwhasoo chose traditional folktales as its theme to expand unique and meaningful communication by transforming them into various genres and reinterpreting values found in folktales in a modern perspective. Making its 10th anniversary, the 2016 Sulwha Cultural Exhibition will present an exhibition that lets the young audience fascinate and relate themselves to the Korean traditional folktale.

The 2016 Sulwha Cultural Exhibition will present one of the most popular Korean traditional tale, the ‘The Two Love Stars: The Altair and Vega.’ 11 teams of artists ranging from installation (Jun Gayoung, LEE SUJIN, Yeojoo Park, FriiH), architecture (stpmj, OAA, O. YoungWook), design (Fabrikr, An jimi+Lee sanghong), media (ELLY CHO), and sound (Joon Kim) will interpret the folktale’s symbolic elements of love, promise, encounter, and continuity in a modern perspective.

This year, the Sulwha Cultural Exhibition will be held in two different locations, Sulwha Flagship Store and Dosan Park. Visitors will walk around Dosan Park and appreciate the artwork as well as experience the naturally blended artwork both inside and outside of the Sulwhasoo Flagship Store. Visitors will also discover the meaning of the connection between the two venues and view a familiar tale in a new angle.
